We are deeply concerned about our ABSF partners and the global community as we all confront the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, more than ever, we have an opportunity to support each other in new and humane ways. We ask our community to unite, share resources, be honest and open, and know that we are here for you in the best way we know how. ABSF supports your efforts, we know that you know what is best, and we strive to continue to foster an environment of trust, collaboration and humanity.

Here are some useful links and resources:

  1. John Hopkins Coronavirus Resources Center: Global cases map, COVID-19 basics; News and Information; many other reliable and scientifically-based resources.
  2. The Girls Foundation of Tanzania: Multiple resources in English and Swahili, UNICEF-WHO Covid-19 in Schools; English-Swahili Covid-19 Prevention Flyer; English-Swahili Covid-19 Hand washing Flyer.

For foundations and individual funders, we urge you to apply the following principles to your current and potential grantees:

  1. Ask: How are they affected by the pandemic, personally, their organization, their community? What are the best practices currently in their community? What do they need? How can you help?
  2. Unrestricted Funding: Nonprofits are currently facing challenges most of us never imagined. Trust them to do what is right with the funding and keep you informed. Ask what they are doing, advise (if they ask), and communicate.
  3. Streamline and Simplify: Grantees are focused on their immediate response to this crisis, do not make things more difficult or bureaucratic. When giving additional unrestricted funding, a 1 page simple signed amendment to the current Grant Agreement is sufficient. Streamline and simplify your grant proposal and reporting processes.
  4. Communicate and Support: Be empathetic and listen. Do what you can to mitigate the inherent power dynamic between funder and grantee and know that we are all in this together. We are stronger and more powerful together and we will get through this.
